Nicki Minaj: Pink Friday 2 Album Review, Track list, streaming success

Finally, the queen of rap brought her five-year hiatus to a halt, and as expected, this comeback arrived with a bang! Currently, her most talked about work, the Pink Friday 2 album was released on December 8, and opened with a No. 3 on the United States Billboard 200. The project, which has now hit No.1 on the same chart, making her third No. 1, is in sequence to her 2010 album debut, Pink Friday. This was the gate opener for Nicki in a male-dominated genre of music, where she was able to, and continues to prove her prowess as a successful female rapper in the industry, throwing the boxing pads with men. Without question, Nicki sure is the queen in this game, as female rappers in the industry have a thank you to say to the pacesetter who opened the way for them to thrive.

Nicki, who had been off the grid for about five years after she released her album, Queen, has had  a myriad of experiences, as she took a bold walk into motherhood with the birth of her son, who is fondly referred to as Papa Bear, Earlier this year, the entertainer had been dropping some hints pointing towards her comeback, as she has accepting features on some songs from different artists. Just as we suspected, she announced on her social media page and dropped Pink Friday 2 as a 22-track album.

Looking back. the “Anaconda” singer is one of the most successful female artists in the industry, having imprinted a great mark on hip-hop and her legacy still stands. A bold and confident one, Minaj has always been giving it hot to her fans whenever she drops her hits, and it is right the call her a boss in the game for her mastery of the art and lyrical prowess.

This newly released album is nothing but magic, judging by its sales and streaming records since the day after its release to the internet.It has been predicted to sell and stream between 170,000 to 190,000 copies in its first week of release. Further establishing the queen’s position and versatility in the industry, her fifth album has claimed the spot for the female rap album with the most first positions in Apple Music history and currently dominating the iTunes chart list, with three of its tracks leading the chart. The album itself has taken a seat at the No. 1 spot on the iTunes album list as well, and this is looking just too good for Nicki, as she might repeat the same trend on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart list and other music charts. Pushing her career higher, Pink Friday 2 has set records for the most opening day streams in history for a female rap album, with an impressive 28.2 million streams on Spotify within 24 hours of its release.

Pink Friday was the game-changing album released by Nicki Minaj in the late 2010s, this album not only brought her to the lime light it also was the beginning of her legacy in the industry, as it paved the way for other female rappers to make a stand too. The first Pink Friday carries a sex theme where Nicki talks freely about her sexual preference and how she doesn’t care about what haters might be thinking, and that she doesn’t give a darn about their thoughts and ideas. The album was a successful one, and in fact, can be said to be one of her greatest successes over the years

Our dear old Nicki of the late 2010s to recent years (about five years ago) still seems very much present now with her talent and artistic prowess. However, compared to the last time when she released the first album, Pink Friday, this new Nicki is more mature and it is all over her in her new album, The Barbie girl never exposed her private life in her latest songs, but instead kept her lines to the reality of the life she is going through, leaving out her sexuality. She also continued to make it certain that she is not leaving the industry anytime soon as she is still holding on to her crown for a long time, telling her competitions that she’s the boss here – to keep looking at her and continue to try to be like her.

Pink Friday 2 also carries a theme of accomplishment, showing to the world, the rappers and the entire industry what she has been able to accomplish in the industry. Also, the singer made sure to incorporate her Caribbean and Trini pride. The album is bound to be a great success in all ways considering it is Nicki Minaj, with the best verses, Additionally, she has featured some of the big names in the industry on the album, including J. Cole, Tasha Cobbs Leonard, Lil Wayne, Tate Kobang, 50 Cent and Lil Uzi Vert. The album has gotten great ratings from her fans worldwide and also a good pass from critics all around, the album can be said to join the list of Nicki Minaj great albums

About the Tracks 

Let’s have a brief review of some of her tracks:

“Needle” Ft Drake

If there is a song in recent years that we’ve seen the 6 God show case his perfection in handling the chorus, then it is in this song, Nicki brought back Drake’s vibe that we’ve missed in the industry with this song, and she also killed the song with her rap verses while blended with some singing.

“Are you gone already”

Featuring Billie Eilish’s “What I’m Made For,” the song explores a theme of heartbreak, loss and letting go. It is interpreted to be about her father’s death whom she had lost and still breaks her heart that they can no longer be together. The song sure is one of the best songs on the track list.

“Let Me Calm Down” featuring J. Cole

This jam also is one of the great hits on the list. It features a theme of love, letting women have their voice heard in a relationship. Fortunately, both J.Cole and the rap queen had a hard hit on this song and made an awesome jam.

“Beep Beep” featuring 50 Cent

This right here is one of the best on the list with its hard-hit beat well controlled by a legend 50 Cent, and meeting with her lyrical prowess, this song is one of the best collaborations in the album.

“Barbie Dangerous”

Sharing the same beat with “Notorious Thugs”,  Nicki brought that fast rapping vibe in on this song and it was a great one seeing her versatility being displayed.

“Red Ruby Da Sleeze”

Though the super freaky girl had disconnected verses from the chorus, the song remains one of the best lyrical works she’s done in the album, Here, she lets you know of her worth and how confident she feels bragging to her other self in the song, showcasing her man, and more.
