Introduction
The night all fans of the American idol have been expecting finally graced us on the May 19, 2024, when viewers put our votes together to choose our champion for season 22 of the show. American Idol, is a well-known singing competition platform that has long been giving young unknown singers voices and fame in the music industry and the world at large. The platform since its first show on Fox in 2002 has successfully produced 22 seasons and over a hundred celebrities. The series focuses on discovering new talented, unsigned singers and promoting them into recording stars, with the winner chosen by American viewers through phone, internet, and SMS text voting. The show also uses a panel of known and experienced artists as judges, these judges provide critique guidance and encouragement for the young competitors throughout the competition.
As Season 22 drew its curtain and waved goodbye the Top 3 finalists Abi Carter, Jack Blocker, and Will Moseley delivered once again a great performance, which made it a night worth witnessing. The journey to the top was fierce and intense, as each finalist showcased their incredible talent leaving a lasting impression on both the audience and the judges.
Karty Pery a popular American singer, songwriter, and also a co-judge of the show since 2018 waved her goodbye too with the intention to focus more on her music career. Katy performed a duet with Jack Blocker one of the top 3 finalists and she left fans in awe with her giant dress, with the pictures of all 168 American Idol contestants from her seven seasons on the show. “I thought a good way to honor my time here would be to put the top 24 contestants of each season on my skirt so they were all there,” she said.
The Final Contest
The final contest began with each of the Top 3 finalists singing twice on the American Idol stage. They were coached by none other than Jon Bon Jovi himself, who not only provided guidance but also graced the stage with his presence. The show was set in motion with Jack, Abi, and Will delivering a performance of his classic “Living on a Prayer,” with the legend himself joining them to sing.
Afterward, Will Moseley was invited back on stage to give his first solo performance of the night, he performed Bon Jovi’s “It’s My Life” The performance was a great one, which got Lionel Richie to praise Will, saying, “Way to go, Will Moseley. You’re there. Let it go. From now on for the rest of your career, let it go and enjoy yourself.”
Next on the stage was Jack Blocker who performed “I’ll Be There For You” by Jon Bon Jovi. With his rendition, he got Katy’s attention, and she acknowledged him for a song well delivered, she said in her words: “It’s pretty surreal that we’re all here considering the complicated relationship we started with. You are still pushing yourself, and you sound good. Also, you look good. No one is blocking Jack Blocker.”
And finally, for the first round, we had the pretty Abi Carter take the stage, delivering a breathtaking rendition of “Bed of Roses” by Jon Bon Jovi. Luke Bryan couldn’t hide the fact that he was blown away, He gave a genuine and encouraging comment saying “That was tremendous. I think the room is saying what they feel. That was incredible.”
The next stage, which was also their last performance on the show, was for them to perform songs dedicated to their hometowns, making sure to creatively add a personal touch to their performance.
Like the first time, Will Moseley came out on stage first, he chose “My Town” by Montgomery Gentry, which resonated deeply with Lionel Richie. He commented, “You can make that song your staple because coming home and having a sellout in your hometown is like no other sellout. I loved it, man.” Jack Blocker on the other hand performed George Strait’s “All My Ex’s Live in Texas,” bringing a fun and carefree vibe to the stage.
That footloose and fancy-free is your bread and butter. It doesn’t matter what happens tonight, that’s going to make you a star.” She said with a big smile. Abi Carter chose “Somewhere” from West Side Story, delivering another stand out performance, and this time she got more of Lionel Richie “I am in awe” expression. “That was a shows topping moment. It doesn’t get any better than that when you can take it down to silence and kill the show,” he said.
Abi Carter Crowned Winner
The climax of the night was the moment everyone had been waiting for, the moment came when host Ryan Seacrest announced Abi Carter as the winner of American Idol Season 22. As the audience cheered in noise and laughter, Abi fell to the floor sobbing, Overwhelmed with emotion, Her victory was a significant moment, she was expecting it yet it felt unbelievable to her, especially since it had been over four years since a female contestant had won the title. Abi’s journey on the show had been nothing short of magical, starting from her unforgettable audition where she performed Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made For?” and received a standing ovation from the judges, to this very moment she’s taking home the crown.
Once again Abi performed “What Was I Made For?” after being crowned the winner, bringing tears to Katy Perry’s eyes and earning hugs from her fellow contestants. Following her victory, Abi Carter took to Instagram to express her gratitude to her fans. “HOW IS THIS EVEN POSSIBLE!??!?!?!?” Furthermore, she wrote. “I couldn’t have imagined winning #americanidol when I started this whole journey. We haven’t had a girl winner in over 4 years and to be the first after so many seasons is the greatest honor. I’m just a girl from Indio, who used to sing on street corners, and now I’ve had the pleasure and privilege to work with some of the most talented people in the industry and be heard by millions of people.”
