However, it is crucial to know that Global Citizen Festival is more than just a music event; it’s a organization for advocacy and change, and this year the festivals will emphases on several important issues like poverty, increase in spread of disease and more. In a statement during the announcement of the year’s festival, the organization highlighted the growing hunger crisis, the spread of infectious diseases, rising debt, and the record-high temperatures of the past year. Despite constant increase in these challenges, governments worldwide are reducing their contributions to foreign aid.

The festival’s aim is to call on G7 countries including Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Italy, the UK, and the US to kindly increase their contributions to the International Development Association (IDA) by 25%. Making sure that the increase will support the social and economic development of over 1.5 billion people in the world, and provide access to electricity for 250 million people by 2030, also address malnutrition for over 40 million women and children annually, and drive investments in healthcare, agriculture, and education.

Fans can demand change from governments and private sector leaders by participating in various calls to action. These include increasing support for anti-poverty programs worldwide, protecting and restoring the Amazon rainforest, and making sure to commit at least $5 billion to nutritious food, stronger health systems, and quality education.

For over one decade, Global Citizen has had life-saving impact for nearly 1.3 billion people around the world. Global Citizen is also dedicated to advocating for human rights and protecting activists worldwide, which includes defending those who risk their lives to fight against extreme poverty and protect the planet. The festival’s mission goes hand in hand with the efforts of various nonprofit organizations across New York.
