Whatever Billie Eilish was made of, it definitely is one of the best creative souls, and spirits a songwriter and singer of this century can have. Since her breakthrough in 2017, the vocalist’s songs have continued to resonate deep within the core of fans all over the world, pushing boundaries and helping her to garner awards.
Earlier this year, during an interview on The Cookout, she tipped us that there’s lots of great sounds coming soon. In her words, “There is a whole album of music coming, we’re in the final stages of making it, so that doesn’t mean it’s about to come out, but it is getting there, and it’s very exciting.” Again, she made it known again that she still stands on her words and we should be expecting a new Billie Eilish project, which will be her third studio album, “We are almost done with this new album. So, at some point, you will know more, but I’m not going to say anything anymore,” she said. The singer gave this piece of information during her interview with Fallon on the Tonight show with Jimmy Fallon, an appearance which ignited a great joy in her fans and audience as they shouted and applauded with excitement.
While she refused to give further information about her third studio efforts and its release date, she did suggest that this album most definitely will be hitting us in 2024, and it sure is going to be a list of great songs, judging by her debut album When We All Fall Asleep Where Do We Go, and sophomore album, Happier Than Ever. Also, her most recent song “What was I made for” which was released on Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” film, is proof that this upcoming project will be a blast.
“What was I made for” has proved prominence across social media leading to it high popularity and streams on all streaming platforms across the world. “I don’t even know why the song is up for competition, it is the song of the year said, I’m calling it right now.” This was according to Fallon during Eilish’s The Tonight Show interview with him. The TV host further expressed his excitement while listing the song’s achievement on the Billboard hot 100 chart, as it was No. 1 for 14 weeks, and has been streamed over two billion times.
The “Bad Guy” singer’s song “What was I made for” has gotten her nomination for a number of awards which includes a four whooping nominations ahead of the 2024 Grammy awards. It got nominated in the following categories; Best Music of the year, Best Pop Solo Performance of the year, Best Song of the Year and Record of the Year. The Barbie soundtrack also got nominated for the Golden Globes Awards among others.
Sharing her experience and opinion about how she came about writing the song, the Grammy winner said during her interview with Jimmy Fallon, that her brother Finneas asked her if she would like to to jump on a song for the the Barbie movie, but she was all confused and unable to make a decision until they got a call from Greta who gave them a brief summary of what the movie was about and also let them go through significant footages of the movie. She also mentioned how Greta was not quite specific and they had to do exactly what she needed for the movie. Since Greta wanted it to be Barbie’s heart song, Billie said this stuck with them and it walked them through crafting the entire lyrics that sum up the song.
During an interview with Mr. Porter, her brother Finneas also confirmed the release of a new Billie Eilish album to be released soon. Although he didn’t mention a specific date, he said that 85 percent of the work is done, while talking about how challenging the process has been, compared to her last two albums which was when they were younger. Billie also attested that everything has changed. After touring for a year and half only for her to realize her voice had changed alongside the songwriting process, alongside her entire life. Evidently, her transition from her mid-teens into the early 20s have been influential on her way of her life, and in extension, would also impact her craft. Nonetheless, fans are expectant of this masterpiece, and we honestly cannot wait to feel these changes through the upcoming singles.
